F.A.Q.S.
How do ACES courses work?
All course assignments, quizzes and discussions are available in each online classroom. Students use either email to send assignments or use the answer page that is set up on the course page.
How do students perform their community service requirements?
A minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities is required for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. The school principal or designate must approve all proposed activities that students intend to participate in. Students can refer to their local community centres and apply for volunteer positions. A written and signed proof of completion of the required hours of community service has to be faxed to the ACES office. ACES can help you find potential centres and activities that will be accepted by the Ministry of Education.
How long are the ACES courses?
Courses can be normally completed in 3 months; however student can proceed at their own pace. Courses, however, need to be completed in a maximum of 6 months from the time of registration. Extension beyond 6 months may result in re-enrolment and payment of full course fees.
Is a textbook required?
Most courses require Ministry approved textbooks. A CD of the textbooks will be shipped to the students when needed.
What does a student need to register?
Canadian students must provide a copy of their Ontario Student Transcript (OST) or credit counselling summary showing the necessary pre-requisites, along with a secondary piece of ID - their birth certificate, drivers license, etc. Their parents (under 18) will also need to sign a permission form. International students need to send their latest transcripts together with the registration form.
Students New to Ontario and/or Ontario High School
If you've never attended an Ontario High school you may be eligible for Ontario credits following an individual assessment. For more information, please contact our Guidance department.
How do Students and Parents contact the teacher?
Students, parents (if the student is under 18), and any support team members each receive a copy of the teacher's contact information including email address, online office hours, and phone number.
When can a student write the exam?
Upon completion of all coursework (activities, tests, discussion postings, independent study unit, etc), students can schedule their final exams through the Guidance office. Final exams have to be booked at least 5 days prior to the expected examination date.
A student wants their marks sent to OUAC/OCAS, a University or College?
A copy of the final mark can be sent by fax or courier to OUAC/OCAS or any university/college. Please note that while OUAC/OCAS will accept faxes, many colleges or universities will not. Copies can be sent by courier if necessary at a cost of $25 for the first location and $10 for each additional institution.
What is ACES refund credit policy?
Full refund of tuition fees less $40 administration fee is made if a written withdrawal is received within two weeks of registration. If a student is temporarily unable to continue in a course after the two week period, we can place his name on Hold for up to a maximum of 6 months and he can proceed with the course at a later date.
